DEVELOPMENT ROADMAP

 Untethered is developed by a solo developer, so while I do my best to predict how long things will take, anything can happen!

 

Be sure to join the Discord to provide suggestions, feedback, and ask questions. 

 

But with that said, here's the rough roadmap!

DECEMBER 2024

The final update to Demo v2, available now on Steam!

CLosed alpha 1 (COMPLETED)

APRIL 2026

Feature complete! At this stage, Untethered will contain its entire Early Access feature set. As testing ramps up, there'll be a lot of iterating on design and improving UI/UX.

  • Improving the module construction system, allowing for module rotation, berth selection, loopable layouts, etc.
  • Module-wide storage, crafting from storage.
  • Suit upgrades interface overhaul.
  • Minor health & farming expansion.

This first alpha iteration will see an increase in the playtester pool. The playtesting application form can be found in the Discord server - or just keep an eye out for updates.

CLosed alpha 2

JUNE 2026

This phase involves a lot of critical bug fixes, improvements to some particularly problematic systems, and some adjustments to progression and balancing.

  • Thermal control system upgrade
  • Improvements to the firefighting experience
  • Asteroid chunking for performance
  • Potentially a change in progression

SEPTEMBER 2026

Some final fixes to critical gameplay/UX issues. Stronger focus on art.

  • Docking system improvements and station collisions.
  • Art, particularly wreckage.

NOVEMBER 2026

Should be entirely art focused at this stage. There may be an alpha 5 if the release date is extended.

DEMO 3

JANUARY 2027

This will be for Steam Next Fest - aiming for the February 2027 SNF but wouldn't surprised if it ended up being June.
